Reverse Text Generator

Reverse letters, reverse word order, mirror text, or flip it upside down — instantly. Free, fast, and your text never leaves your device.

Four transformations, computed at once

There is no button on this page. Whatever sits in the box is run through four separate functions on every keystroke, and each result gets its own card with a copy button. Comparing them side by side is the point: people often ask for "backwards text" when what they actually want is upside down text for a social caption, or mirrored letters for a tattoo mock up, and seeing all four saves a round trip through three different websites.

How each one is built

  • Reverse Text splits your input into characters, reverses the order and joins it back together. The split is done by code point rather than by UTF-16 unit, so most emoji and accented letters stay whole instead of breaking into fragments.
  • Reverse Words splits on runs of whitespace while keeping those runs as items in the list, reverses the whole list and rejoins it. Keeping the separators means your spacing and line breaks survive rather than collapsing to single spaces.
  • Mirror Text reverses the characters and then substitutes each one for a Unicode character that looks like its left to right reflection: b for d, q for p, Я for R, Ǝ for E, ɿ for r. Brackets and slashes are swapped to their opposite partners too. Anything with no lookalike is left as it is.
  • Upside Down reverses the characters and then substitutes rotated glyphs: ɐ for a, ǝ for e, ʇ for t, ∀ for A, ⊥ for T, along with mappings for digits and for punctuation such as ¿ and ¡. Capitals with no rotated form fall back to the lowercase rotation.

A worked example

Type Hello world 123 and the four cards fill in immediately:

  • Reverse Text: 321 dlrow olleH
  • Reverse Words: 123 world Hello
  • Mirror Text: Ɛ21 blɿow ollɘH, where the digit 3 has a reflected form but 1 and 2 do not
  • Upside Down: ƐᄅƖ plɹoʍ ollǝH

Notice that the upside down version reads correctly when you physically turn your phone over, while the mirror version reads correctly when you hold it up to a bathroom mirror. They are different tricks and they are not interchangeable.

Where this actually gets used

Novelty captions and comment replies on Instagram, TikTok and Discord, where upside down text still stands out in a feed. Puzzle and escape room clues that have to be read in a mirror or by turning a card over. Classroom activities on letter reversal and directionality, where a teacher wants a printable strip of mirrored words. Testing how an app or a database handles unusual Unicode before it hits real users. Checking a palindrome by reversing the letters and comparing. Reordering a list that came out backwards, using the word reversal rather than the letter one. Making a username or bio line look distinctive on a platform that allows arbitrary Unicode.

Known rough edges

Reversing text is not as simple as it looks, and honesty helps more than pretending otherwise. Accented characters written as a base letter plus a combining mark will separate, so the accent can land on the wrong neighbour. Emoji built from several code points joined together, including family emoji, national flags and skin tone variants, can scramble when reversed because the joiners end up in the wrong place. Right to left scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew already display from the right, so reversing them produces something visually confusing rather than useful. The mirror and upside down alphabets borrow glyphs from other writing systems, which means a font that lacks those characters will show empty boxes, and a screen reader will read the substituted letters as whatever they actually are rather than as your message. Some platforms strip or normalise unusual characters on paste, so test in the destination before relying on it.

This is a novelty and formatting tool, not security. Reversed text is trivially readable by anyone who reverses it back, so never use it to obscure anything sensitive. There is no file upload, no download and no history: the only way out is the copy button, which puts that single result on your clipboard. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Other text tools on the site

For changing capitalisation, including sentence case and title case, use the Case Converter. For decorative alphabets that keep their letter order, see Fancy Text Generator, Aesthetic Symbols and Zalgo Glitch Text. Where a platform demands a non empty name or bio, Invisible Character supplies a blank that passes validation. For genuine encoding rather than novelty, try Base64 Encode & Decode, Binary Translator, Morse Code Translator or Cipher Translator. To measure what you have written there is the Word Counter and the Word Frequency Counter, and to compare two versions of a passage use Text Diff.

FAQ

What is the difference between reversed, mirrored and upside down text?

Reversed text keeps the same letters in the opposite order, so it reads backwards. Mirrored text also swaps each letter for a reflected lookalike, so it reads correctly in a mirror. Upside down text swaps each letter for a rotated glyph, so it reads correctly when you turn the screen around.

Why do some characters stay unchanged?

Unicode has no reflected or rotated form for every character. When a lookup finds nothing, the original character is passed through untouched, which is why punctuation, emoji and non Latin scripts often appear as they were.

Will it work when I paste it into Instagram or Discord?

Usually. Both accept arbitrary Unicode in captions and messages. Some apps and forms normalise or strip unusual characters, and a few older fonts show boxes instead, so paste a sample into the destination and look at it before you publish.

Does it handle emoji and numbers?

Digits have both mirrored and rotated forms, so they transform. Emoji are reversed in position but not substituted, and multi part emoji such as flags or family groups can break apart when their order is flipped.

Can I reverse a whole paragraph and keep the line breaks?

Yes for the word order option, which treats runs of whitespace as items and puts them back, preserving your line breaks. Reversing by letter runs the line breaks backwards along with everything else, so a multi line block will end up in the opposite order.
