Why use ZillaKit's Trim Video tool?
Trimming happens entirely inside your browser using a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, so your video is never uploaded to a server and never leaves your device. Most online video cutters make you wait through a long upload and then hand your footage to their cloud; here the whole clip stays on your computer, which means real privacy and no upload queue. The fast trim mode copies the original streams without re-encoding, so it is quick and keeps the exact source quality — perfect for pulling a highlight out of a long recording. When you need the cut to land on an exact frame, the precise mode re-encodes so the start and end are frame-accurate. There is no signup, no watermark and no email required, and it is free to use with a generous daily allowance. Because the work runs locally, speed depends on your own device rather than a shared server, so keep an eye on very large files.
FAQ
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. All trimming happens locally in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your video never leaves your device.
What is the difference between fast and precise trim?
Fast trim copies the video without re-encoding, so it is quick and keeps the original quality, but cuts snap to the nearest keyframe. Precise trim re-encodes for frame-accurate start and end points, which is slower.
Why does the first trim take a moment to start?
The first run downloads the video engine, roughly 32 MB. Your browser caches it, so every trim after that starts much faster.
How large a file can I trim?
Because everything runs in a browser tab, very large files can exhaust available memory. We suggest keeping videos under about 500 MB, and using a desktop browser for the biggest files.
Which formats are supported?
You can trim MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM and AVI files. The trimmed clip is saved in the same container as your source.
