How to use Type to Talk

1. Type what you want to say in the big box, then press Enter or tap the Speak button. Your device reads it out loud.
2. Open Voice settings to pick a voice and adjust the speed and pitch until it sounds right for you. Those choices are remembered next time.
3. Tap any button on the phrase board to say a common line instantly, with no typing at all.
4. Use Edit board to add, rename or delete phrases and categories so the board matches the things you actually need to say.
5. If the room is too loud for speech, tap Big text to show your message full screen in huge letters. Tap the screen or press Escape to close it.

Because speaking is an accessibility need rather than a novelty, this tool is completely free and has no usage limits, no credits and no daily cap, unlike some of the heavier converters on the site. Speech is produced by the voices already built into your browser and operating system, so nothing you type is sent anywhere, nothing is recorded, and no message ever touches a server. Your saved phrases live in your own browser storage, and you can export them as a small JSON file to back them up or move them to another device.

The layout is deliberately simple: one large text box, one very large Speak button, and rows of big tappable phrase buttons that are easy to hit with shaky hands or on a small screen. Every control is at least 44 pixels tall, keyboard focus is clearly visible, and the page works in both light and dark themes. Once the page has loaded it keeps working without a connection, which matters in hospitals, clinics and anywhere the signal drops out. If speech is unavailable on a device, or the room is simply too noisy, Big text mode turns your message into full screen type that anyone nearby can read at a glance.

Is Type to Talk really free?

Yes. It is free with no limits at all: no sign up, no credits, no daily cap and no watermark. Being able to communicate is not something we think anyone should have to pay for or ration.

Which voices can I choose from?

The voice list comes from the voices already installed in your browser and operating system, so it differs between Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and each browser. If the list looks short, adding more language voices in your system settings will add them here too.

I cannot hear anything, what should I check?

Check the device volume and any silent or mute switch first, then try a different voice from the list. Some browsers only allow speech after you have interacted with the page, so tap the Speak button directly rather than expecting sound automatically. If your device has no voices at all, use Big text mode instead.

Are my typed messages or saved phrases private?

Completely. Everything runs in your browser. Messages are never uploaded, never stored after you clear them, and your phrase board is kept only in this browser's local storage. Use Export phrases if you want your own copy as a JSON file.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline, because the tool itself makes no network calls. Most system voices are stored on the device and speak offline too, though a few premium voices in some browsers need a connection.

Can I use it on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The layout switches to a single column on small screens and every button is a large touch target, so it works well on a phone propped on a bedside table or handed to someone across a counter.
