Animated GIFs are not animated in PNG. This tool captures the first frame and keeps its transparency.

How to convert GIF to PNG

    1. Drop your .gif files onto the drop zone, or click to browse.
    2. Click Convert to PNG. Static GIFs convert as-is; animated ones use their first frame.
    3. Download a single PNG, or a zip if you converted a batch.

    Why convert GIF to PNG?

GIF is an old format with two big limitations: it only supports 256 colours per frame, and its transparency is a single hard on/off with no smooth edges. PNG fixes both, offering full-colour images and proper alpha transparency with soft anti-aliased edges. If your GIF is a logo, icon, sticker or diagram that does not need to move, converting it to PNG usually gives you a cleaner, more flexible file that modern editors and design tools prefer. The one thing to understand up front is animation. PNG (the ordinary kind) holds a single still image, so it cannot carry a GIF's animation. This converter takes the first frame of an animated GIF and saves that as your PNG — perfect for grabbing a poster image or a single sticker, but not a way to keep the motion. Transparency is preserved: a GIF's transparent pixels become transparent in the PNG. Because the work is done on the HTML canvas inside your browser, your files are never uploaded, and there is no signup, watermark or waiting. Drop a batch and get a zip of PNG stills in seconds, entirely on your own device.

    FAQ

What happens to an animated GIF?

PNG cannot animate, so the converter saves the first frame as a still PNG. If you need every frame, that requires a different tool that exports frames separately.

    Is transparency kept?

Yes. Transparent pixels in the GIF stay transparent in the PNG. PNG also allows smoother edges than GIF's single-colour transparency.

Will the PNG look better than the GIF?

Often, yes. PNG supports full colour rather than GIF's 256-colour palette, so gradients and photos look cleaner. The file may be larger as a result.

    Are my GIFs uploaded?

No. Everything is processed locally in your browser with the canvas API. Your files never leave your device.
