How to make a receipt

1. Choose Payment receipt for a normal sale, or Rent receipt if you are a landlord or agent recording rent paid.
2. Enter who is issuing the receipt — your business or landlord name, contact details and logo if you have one. These are saved for next time.
3. Fill in the receipt number, the date the money was received, who paid, the amount and the payment method (cash, card, bank transfer, cheque and more).
4. Describe what the payment was for, or for rent, add the tenant, property address and the period covered.
5. Click Download PDF for a printable A4 receipt, or Download PNG for an image you can text or email straight to the payer.

Why use ZillaKit's receipt generator?

The receipt itself contains everything a payer, a bookkeeper or a tribunal would look for: a unique receipt number, the date the money was received, who paid, the amount in both figures and written words (which is what makes a receipt hard to alter), the payment method, and a plain description of what the money was for. If the amount includes tax, tick the box and the tax component is shown separately — useful for GST-registered businesses whose customers need the tax broken out.

The rent receipt preset adds the fields a tenancy needs: tenant name, property address and the rental period covered, which is exactly what tenants are usually required to keep and what landlords in many jurisdictions must supply for cash rent. FAQ

Is this receipt generator free?

Yes. Make as many receipts as you like and download them as PDF or PNG. The free tier adds a small "Receipt created with ZillaKit.com" line at the bottom; Premium removes it and adds a commercial licence. No signup is needed.

What should a valid receipt include?

At a minimum: who issued it, who paid, the date the payment was received, the amount, the payment method, what the payment was for, and a receipt number so it can be traced. This tool includes all of those, plus the amount written out in words.

How is a rent receipt different?

A rent receipt names the tenant, the rental property and the exact period the rent covers, as well as the amount and date paid. Many jurisdictions require a landlord to provide one for rent paid in cash, and tenants are usually advised to keep them. Switch to the rent receipt preset and those fields appear.

Can I show the GST or VAT component?

Yes. Tick "Amount includes tax" and set the label and rate. The receipt then shows the tax included in the amount, calculated as amount minus amount divided by one plus the rate.

Can I get the receipt as an image instead of a PDF?

Yes. The PNG download renders the receipt as a high-resolution image, which is easier to send by text message or paste into a chat than a PDF attachment.

Is anything uploaded to a server?

No. The receipt is built and rendered entirely in your browser. Your details, your customers' or tenants' names, and the amounts are never sent anywhere.
